Job Description
Scientist – Biology at Amgen Research Denmark

Amgen is one of the world’s leading independent biotechnology companies. For more than four decades, Amgen has pioneered biotechnology breakthroughs to bring state-of-the-art medicines from the laboratory to the patient. Using our DNA Encoded Library (DEL) technology, Amgen Research Copenhagen (ARC) contributes significantly to Amgen’s many small molecule drug discovery projects from hit discovery all the way to drug candidate selection.

We currently seek a candidate who will be part of an exciting team bringing therapeutic projects from the early hit discovery stage through lead optimization in global collaboration with our colleagues in the US and other sites. If you are passionate, creative, goal-oriented, openminded, hardworking, and have a desire to do groundbreaking scientific research within drug discovery, we may have a position for you.

As a member of the ARC Biosciences group, you will help us drive innovation within both traditional small molecule drug discovery and within discovery of novel multi-specific small molecule-based modalities including targeted protein degradation; one of the fastest growing new drug discovery modalities. Amgen has committed significantly to this new exciting field of drug discovery and the broad hit-finding platform at ARC is central for this effort. The position will involve development and/or implementation of novel cell-based methods for discovery and characterization of multi-specific small molecules, but also hit discovery using DEL screens, and hit validation and mechanistic characterization using biochemical and cell-based methods. You will be working closely together with other biologists as well as medicinal chemists in the process of identifying and optimizing hits in order to reach project and company goals.

Specifically, tasks will include:
  • Development, implementation, and execution of cell-based methods for discovery of multi-specific small-molecule drugs
  • Screening of drug targets using DEL libraries and continuous development of the DEL platform
  • Design and development of assays for mechanistic characterization of drug targets
  • Affinity and activity determination of hit molecules by biochemical and cell-based assays
  • Planning, execution, and analysis of experiments and screens according to project goals and timelines
  • Presentation of scientific results at team meetings, locally and across global sites
  • Multidisciplinary teamwork in a fast-moving and diverse environment

We offer a highly rewarding and stimulating environment in a world-class drug discovery organisation. The position is based in our labs in Copenhagen.
The employee will report to Scientific Director, and leader of the ARC Biology group, Søren Jensby Nielsen. For further information contact: HR Manager Helena Pechter (

Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, pharmacology, biotechnology, or a related discipline with a solid background in cell biology. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Theoretical and hands-on experience with characterization of small molecule/drug target interactions using cell-based and/or biochemical assays
  • Understanding of structural biology and drug discovery
  • Experience within these fields is an advantage: Oncology, inflammation, metabolic diseases, the ubiquitin/proteasome system
  • Interest in handling, analyzing, and communicating complex data sets
  • Excellent collaborations and team player skills
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Outspoken personality with an urge for creating high quality results
Application:
Please note that it is required to have a permit to live and work in Denmark for the position. All applications and contacts are confidential. We want your application as soon as possible, since selection starts instantly.
