To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children’s hospital l! ike no other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the ! hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and a new expanded Emergency Department.

Provides Occupational Therapy patients examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, patents/caregiver education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures. Actively participates in departmental education activities in order to expands knowledge of patient populations and evidence based practice.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
2. Evaluates patients for occupational therapy treatment including splinting, positioning, adaptive equipment, home programs, home accessibility, etc.
3. Independently provides and coordinates age appropriate occupational therapy consultation! , treatment plans, and treatment in typical patient care situations.
4. Developing proficiency for splinting for typical patients.
5. Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, JCAHO, and CARF standards.
6. Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
7. Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, or transition of care, etc.
8. Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with the insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
9. May begin to investigate specialty areas within the occupational therapy discipline.

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities
1. Assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; participates in peer review process; attends inse! rvices/continuing education and provides updates in the form of inservi! ces to the department.
2. Participates in program, discipline, specialty, and hospital/satellite Continuous Improvement.
3. Contributes to discipline and program committees to enhance patient care; assists in assessing current procedures and in developing methods of improvement related to patient care.
4. Participates in activities to increase program use, awareness, and marketability; participates in meeting goals of the department. Attends monthly program meetings.
5. Assists in mentoring affiliating occupational therapy students, new occupational therapy staff, support personnel, and volunteers. Assists with department wide student teaching. Participates in student and volunteer program organization.
6. Participates in a single discipline, multi-disciplinary, or specialty team. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
7. Contributes to the growth and development of specialty areas within the occupational therapy discipline. Stays ! current on technological aspects of position and develops ties with professional organizations. Provides educational inservices and experiences to the discipline/program/community; attends occupational therapy meetings as scheduled; may participate in promotional activities for occupational therapy and/or Nemours.
