This positon is 20 hours a week supporting o! ur Dover location.

To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-ph! ase expansion to create a children's hospital like no other in! the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
Provide peer counseling, education and support to WIC-eligible pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the Nemours Primary Care Dover, Milford, Jessup Street and/or St. Francis Pediatric offices. It is the mission of the peer counselor to promote and support breastfeeding as the premier method of infant nutrition to all WIC-eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women and their infants.
Essential Functions
Completes WIC breastfeeding peer counselor training.
Participates in Nemours on-site lactation training.
Works with clients in the offices to navigate underserved women to WIC and breastfeeding resources.
Counsels and educates clients through regular telephone interactions and face-to-face contact at the Nemours Practice sites, including off hours via phone ! if necessary.
Responsible for mailing breastfeeding materials and information to WIC clients.
Refers WIC-eligible women to appropriate health care resources.
Teaches and assists with prenatal classes and new mother groups on a monthly basis.
Peer counselor is responsible for maintaining a relationship with WIC-eligible moms during pregnancy and after delivery, if applicable.
Communicates and coordinates care as needed with the Primary Care Practices medical team.
Maintains data collection and charting as required by the Nemours and WIC contract.
Submits all data to the Nemours Contract Administrator on a predetermined monthly basis.
Requirements
Must possess a valid Class D driver's license.
Two years working in health care or community programming preferred.
Experience working/volunteering in a mentoring, advocacy or peer programming preferred.
Paraprofessional with ! breastfeeding experience of at least 4 months
Must have breast! fed for a minimum of 4 months.
Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole a plus.
