CONTEXT OF THE ! JOB:
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, the [incumbent] participates in project related activities in the Health & Wellness Unit at the Center for Disabilities Studies.
The Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) is a University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and one of 67 centers of the national Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD). CDS is the largest research and public service Center in the College of Education and Human Development. The Center provides a leadership role in promoting accessibility and the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of society. CDS accomplishes this through education, research, and service. The Health and Wellness Unit within the Center for Disabilities Studies addresses health and well-being of children and adults with all types of disabilities and their families through systems change activities, data collection and analysis, evaluation, research! , technical assistance, education, training, and information d! issemination. The Health and Wellness Unit works in close collaboration with national and state agencies and health and disability-focused community organizations. The Health and Wellness Unit provides graduate assistantships and undergraduate internship opportunities for students at the University of Delaware.
The [incumbent] has primary responsibilities for carrying out and coordinating daily project activities and tasks related to improving access to information for families of children with special healthcare needs and statewide awareness of developmental milestones and healthy child development. The [incumbent] works with community stakeholders, including, but not limited to health care providers, families of individuals with special health care needs, legislators, state agencies and service providers to improve awareness of and access to quality services and supports in Delaware. The [incumbent] coordinates efforts of state and community agencies to create a ! comprehensive approach to addressing stakeholder needs. The [incumbent] will also assist with program evaluation activities; manage projects' data and databases, plan and manage programs and events logistics; and preparation of grant proposals. The [incumbent] works under the general direction of the Unit Leader/Principal Investigator.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops coalitions and key partnerships with organizations including the State Title V Program for Children with Special Health Care Needs, primary care providers, pediatric specialists, family leaders and parent organizations, state and community agencies, state legislatures, public and private payers and schools.
Facilitates implementation of a statewide marketing and communication strategy to improve awareness of developmental screening and developmental milestones, as well as resources for families of children with special healthcare needs, with buy in from statewide stakeholders.

Conducts site visits to providers and agencies who are considering! the feasibility of incorporating developmental screening materials into their practice.
Presents at national conferences on programs and innovations related to the developmental screening awareness project.
Organizes and facilitates community screening and awareness events.
Provide leadership to other states regarding the implementation and promotion of developmental screening programs.
Implements activities outlined in strategic plan to improve services and supports for families of children with special healthcare needs.
Builds relationships with local, state and federal agencies, community service providers and health systems.
Evaluates and submits recommendations to the website and database developers concerning the structure and function of the Family SHADE website and database. Maintains website content.
Works with community stakeholders, including, but not limited to health care providers, families of chi! ldren with special health care needs, state agencies and community service providers to improve awareness of autism screening among providers.
Designs, develops and expands relational databases to manage and track project activity and maintains databases of project contacts.
Coordinates the development and implementation of social media engagement strategy and policies, including media monitoring programs (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Text Messaging).
Collaborates on the creative development and design, promotional materials and the project websites. Assists with printing and mailing promotional and informational materials.
Researches developmental screening, marketing and communication strategies and disability-related topics for relevancy to events, resources, and funding opportunities; serves as a point of contact for community input and dissemination.
Researches the availability of grants and other funding sources and concept! ualizes, prepares and writes grant proposals including project design, ! budget preparation and work plans.
Collaborates in the preparation and writing of major documents (budgets, data reports, publications, etc.) including editing for content and format.
Assists Health & Wellness Unit Leader with organization and coordination of projects within Unit.
Plans and independently manages statewide awareness programs; addresses event logistics and leads meetings for committee/board meetings, technical assistance workshops, webinars and other activities.
Analyzes evaluation data following events and activities.
Performs intake and referral services for Family SHADE help line.
Manages volunteer efforts and maintains documentation to ensure adequate levels of effort are met to satisfy federally required financial cost share.
Reports to federal sponsors of Health and Wellness Unit grant awards.
Develops and writes reports, generates and verifies queries, and resolves record issues.
Supervises hourly staff and manages volunteer efforts providing coaching, feedback and reinforcement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services/Development, Marketing and Communications, Education or other related discipline and two years of work experience within the public health, human services and/or disabilities services field.
Knowledge of the field of disabilities, services for children with special health care needs and the system of autism identification and developmental screening.
Demonstrated skills in collaboration and teamwork. Collaborative efforts are paramount.
Experience with text messaging systems in the public health arena.
Experience with public speaking including presentations to both large and small groups.
Experience working with media to promote various initiatives.
Excellent marketing and promotion skills and background (in the field of public health preferr! ed)
Must be comfortable working within a fast-paced setting th! at requires a high level of multi-tasking and flexibility.
Experience working with a diverse group of individuals, including individuals with disabilities, family members, human service and health care professionals, legislators and administrators.
Understanding of cultural competence and experience working with families with diverse backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Inventory management experience for effectively managing, budgeting, stocking and distributing print material.
Knowledge and skills in database management, website design and maintenance, and program implementation.
Familiarity with grant proposal writing and identification of potential funding sources.
Familiarity/ Experience with intake and referral services.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to attend meetings off campus at various locations around Delaware and have regular access to a private me! ans of transportation. Position requires some weekend and evening hours. Some out of state travel is required. Must pass criminal background check.
