To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a childrenâ s hospital like no other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private, family-centered, technologically advanced patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
Nemours Health & Prevention Services (NHPS), a nonprofit organization based in Newark, Delaware, works with families and community partners to help children grow up healthy. NHPS is a division of Nemours, one of the nation's largest pediatric health systems. We expand Nemoursâ reach beyond clinical care to promote childrenâ s health where children and families live learn and play. NHPS work is based on the social ecological model of health promotion and disease prevention. The evaluation and research team at NHPS evaluates program implementation, policy, practice and system change outcomes and population-level health and behavior outcomes.
This senior-level position requires advanced-level knowledge in mixed-methods applied research and evaluation with an emphasis on quantitative methods. Responsibilities include planning and conducting analyses and studies related to health promotion and disease prevention issues. Responsible for all aspects of assigned projects, including study design, protocol development, study implementation, preliminary and final data analysis, interpretation, report writing and presentation of study results. The position requires the ability to mentor others and speak publically about processes, results and implications in a team-based environment. Work at this level is performed under limited direction with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates leadership, strategic analytical thinking and strong project management skills at all phases of scientific knowledge, evaluation and research. Responsible for all phases of scientific knowledge, evaluation and research, ensuring the application of scientific and/or standardized protocols and epidemiological principles and methodologies, including problem exploration; study definition; protocol development; design of data collection tools; oversight of data collection, transmission and entry; analysis of data; interpretation of findings; and reporting of results in both written and oral format. Responsible for coordinating across internal business areas, including the Nemours Internal Review Board and with external collaborators to develop and implement study protocols and all other analytical work, such as program evaluation, needs assessment, survey development, measurement tool development, report writing, etc. Responsible for keeping abreast of current knowledge in childrenâ s health, health promotion and disease prevention by conducting scientific literature searches and reviews, utilizing multiple sources of electronic and hard-copy journal articles, textbooks and communication with experts. Expected to share knowledge by mentoring scientists as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities:
Utilize project data, evaluation and outcome results to develop reports and make recommendations for improvements to health promotion, disease prevention and organizational capacity-building strategies or projects, and for the development of NHPS policy. Coordinate or prepare regular status reports on health promotion, disease prevention and organizational capacity-building strategies and knowledge development. Design and develop performance objectives and outcome measures for NHPS health promotion and disease prevention projects. Develop procedures to organize scientific investigations into a logical sequence with a reasonable and achievable schedule of deadlines and to monitor and evaluate progress in achieving objectives, including feedback to decision makers regarding ongoing scientific process and results. Apply scientific research methods, including epidemiological principles, methodologies, concepts and applications, to research analysis.
