About being a light rail driver

We are looking for journey makers who enjoy driving and are passionate about providing our customers with the freedom to move everyday thanks to safe and reliable travel on Sydney light rail

What
makes a good light rail driver?

If you are passionate about providing a service and love the city of Sydney, you are already on the right track! A commitment to safety is crucially important and so is having a positive outlook, good concentration skills, and the ability to cope under pressure to manage difficult situations calmly and effectively.

What
do you need to become a light rail driver?

· You must have a proven record of safe driving on the road and have a current NSW Drivers Licence (C Class) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience on your full licence (not including Learners/Provisional).

  • Being a full-time light rail driver means a commitment to shift work and being available to work 38 hours per week. Your shifts will include early starts, late finishes, weekends, and public holidays.

  • We have an uncompromising attitude to the safety of our employees, clients, and customers. It is important that you are medically fit to perform the functions of a light rail driver and our pre-employment medical checks including drug & alcohol testing will confirm this. Our recruitment process also includes police, licence, and right-to-work checks.

  • You need to be prepared to be part of a workplace that is based on respect, promotes diversity, and encourages inclusiveness.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and experience at communicating with a broad range of stakeholders are also essential.

Our commitment to you

You will join a welcoming organisation that embraces diversity and invests in its people and provides career growth opportunities to make your mark, push boundaries and reach your maximum potential. Many of our team leaders and managers started their careers at Transdev Sydney as light rail drivers and many of our people have been with us for decades

As a light rail driver, you will receive comprehensive training and continuous support from team leaders and workmates. You will be paid to attend your initial driver certification training which will take six weeks to complete. Most of your training will occur out on the network so you can gain real driving experience, supervised by your trainer or an experienced mentor driver. The rest of your training will be theory, delivered in a classroom setting.

As well as initial and ongoing training you will have access to five weeks of annual leave, competitive pay and other employee benefits including free travel on the light rail and access to Transdev’s Fitness Passport program.
