Detailed specification about this job opportunity kindly read the description below. Nemours is seeking a casual Telephone Triage Nurse to join our KidsHealth On-Call team in Wilmington, Delaware.
To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to crea! te a children’s hospital like no other in the region. Upon c! ompletion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
The KidsHealth On-Call telephone nurse triage unit provides patients with telephone access to a highly skilled and trained registered nurse during hours when the Nemours primary care offices are closed.
Job functions include:
Accurately assessing each patient's condition by actively listening to callers and asking probative questions. Identifying emergent situations and effectively transferring life-threatening calls to appropriate agencies per protocol.
Providing appropriate and courteous telephone advice, including plan of care and patient education, to callers according to approved protocols.
Appropriately and accurately documenting initial and ongoing telephone conversations with documentation being completed immediately after the call ends.
Placing outbound follow-up! calls to caregivers as needed.
Accurately communicating information to physician on call as needed either over the telephone or by routing the necessary information to the physician through EPIC.
Meeting unit expectation for performance based on unit competencies and staff meeting attendance.
Must be able to work independently, and make critical decisions autonomously as this is a complete work-pat-home position after completion of orientation.
Requirements
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Ability to multitask, make time-sensitive decisions, and function well independently.
Current PA and DE nursing license or ability for license reciprocity in these states.
RN required; BSN preferred
3-5 years pediatric experience; nurse triage or primary care nursing experience a plus.
This is a casual RN position.
Work hours: Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holida! ys and evenings. Some overnights are required to fill in when night shi! ft nurses are off. Shifts may be adjusted due to department needs.
Must live within a 60-minute commute of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital.
Bilingual/Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is a plus.
This will be a work-from-home position once department orientation has been completed.
