General Description:

The Ophthalmology Department at The Wilmington Hospital Health Center is currently seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to work Part-time 56 hour bi-weekly Day shift with flexible scheduling. Weekends and Holidays are not required for this position. As an Ophthalmic Technician:

Responsibilities:

• Assist the patients through their ophthalmic office visit while working with physician, nursing and clerical staff to provide a smooth, organized and efficient office flow.
• Performs preliminary vision exam, glass reading, intraocular pressure, visual acuity, A-scan, B-scan, fundus photography, and fluore! scein angiography.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills ! relating to ocular care appropriate to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients under the direction of the RN.
• Administers ophthalmic medications safely, under the direction and supervision of a physician.
• Performs front office clerical tasks relating to registration, scheduling, insurance verification and answering phones.
• Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

• A high school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Opthalmic Technician experience preferred, but not required.
• Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology required within six months of employment with yearly mainten! ance of certification.
• BCLS certification
• Knowledge of Opthalmic procedures performed in the office.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of billing and insurance requirements.
• Knowledge and ability to use office computer systems.
• Skill in written and verbal communication.
• Skill in solving math problems.
