Nemours is seeking a Speech Pathologist, Staff I to join our Outpatient Therapy Services team in Dela! ware.

To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase! expansion to create a childrenâs hospital like no other in ! the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private, family-centered, technologically advanced patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
Provides speech-language pathology patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caretaker education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures. Actively participates in departmental education activities in order to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.
Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
Demonstrates proficiency in the care of pediatrics, adolescents and adults. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
Demonstrates at least 75% of Staff I SLP clinical competencies in direct patient car! e within probationary period.
Expands knowledge of less-common populations seen within the program through mentorship, educational opportunities, etc.
Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, The Joint Commission and CARF standards.
Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussions as an interdisciplinary team member.
Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with the insurance referral/authorization process.
May begin to investigate specialty areas within the speech-language pathology discipline.
Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities
Assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; participates in peer review process. Attends inservices/continuing education; provides updates in the form of inservices to the department.
Participates in program, discipline, specialty and hos! pital/satellite CQI projects.
Contributes to discipline and pr! ogram committees to enhance patient care; assists in assessing current procedures and assists in developing methods of improvement related to patient care.
Participates in activities to increase program use, awareness and marketability. Attends monthly program meetings. Contributes to achievement of department/program goals.
Assists in mentoring affiliating speech-language pathology students, new speech-language pathology staff, support personnel and volunteers. Adequately and appropriately supervises CFY staff. Assists with department-wide student teaching; participates in student and volunteer program organization.
Participates in single discipline, multi-disciplinary and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
Contributes to the growth and development of specialty areas within the speech-language pathology discipline. Develops ties with professional organizations. Provides educational inservices and e! xperiences to the discipline/program and outside community. Attends speech-language pathology meetings as scheduled. May participate in promotional activities for speech-language pathology and/or Nemours.
Completes department and Delaware Valley annual mandatory inservice training. Annual radiation safety training for those performing Modified Barium Swallow Studies.
When required by assignment, participates in weekend rehab coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980.GL.24.
Additional Responsibilities
Research: May participate in data collection for discipline, enterprise and community-based research projects.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university is required.
At least 3 months of experience.
Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pedia! trics preferred.
Experience with physically and/or mentally ch! allenged populations preferred.
Familiarity with speech and language development, deviation and disorders.
Familiarity with assessment scales and instruments and with techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations.
