To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children's hospital like n! o other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospi! tal will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
Primary Function
Position exists to support the Department of Pediatrics to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner, supporting the Associate Administrator, Administrative Director and assigned Division Chief (s). The Area Manager provides operational leadership, overseeing the day-to-day operations of assigned divisions/functional departments and ensuring smooth operations; ensures that assigned divisions maintain a patient/customer focus; and achieves fiscal viability by meeting budget and operational targets. The position provides on-site direction and support in the management of daily activities, operational issues and concerns, and supervision of personnel. The Area Manager maximizes efficiencies through consistent policy application and leveraging of technology.
Essential Respo! nsibilities
Work collaboratively with the Department of Pediatrics Administration and Division Leadership to ensure that the highest level of service is offered to patients. Develop customer service standards and expectations. Directly investigate customer complaints at practice site and respond. Develop on-site methodologies to measure, assess and improve customer satisfaction.
Evaluate work processes, time management and efficiency of assigned staff to maximize productivity and ensure maximum utilization of resources available. Coordinate call schedule and staffing coverage.
Monitor the continual improvement of Nemours' patient cycle process/system, including focused site improvements, technology enhancements and the development of key metrics for measuring process improvements.
Review payroll reports for compliance with budgeted hours and overtime.
Participate in the recruitment and training of associates and ensure the develo! pment of associates through orientation and training programs and throu! gh work experiences.
Assist in coordination of physician schedules, appointments and call coverage to optimize patient access for areas of responsibility.
Monitor compliance with Department/Hospital policies and procedures, managed care and third-party insurance procedures. Formulate new policies and procedures and recommend changes in existing policies and procedures where appropriate.
Review statistical data, identify trends, and develop and implement corrective action. Review and prepare statistical reports on operations, activities and budget compliance.
Provide site-specific input to the Associate Administrator, Administrative Director and Division Chief(s) in the preparation and subsequent monitoring of operational and capital budgets. Analyze monthly responsibility summaries and prepare variance reports detailing plans of actions for negative variances.
Identify cost-effective approaches to revenue enhancement and expense ! reduction and implement changes.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Master's in Business or Health Care Administration preferred.
Minimum of three years supervisory experience in health care environment required.
Practice management experience preferred.
Experience with computer systems and applications required.
Experience with third-party payers required.
