Nemours is seeking a casual Therapeutic Technician to join our Child Life team in Wilmi! ngton, Delaware.

To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phas! e expansion to create a children's hospital like no other in t! he region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
Primary Function
Organize, prepare and assist in the delivery of patient care services for a designated Therapeutic and Rehabilitative Services program area. Assumes primary responsibility for preparing and maintaining therapeutic treatment and patient care areas within safety and infection control guidelines. Carries out developmental and therapeutic play and activity programming in coordination with the Child Life Specialists and the health care team.
Essential Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents and adults.
Maintains patient confidentiality related to conversation, medical record, treatment plans, etc.
Follows basic medical precautions for each patient! (for eating, drinking, mobility) and refers appropriately to health care team/nursing unit.
Assists patients where designated support is needed (such as transfers, ambulation practice, etc.).
Uses machines and tools in a responsible manner adhering to safety practices as outlined by the manufacturer and OSHA standards.
Implements Child Life programming that is consistent with patient needs, goals of the health care team, and standards of professional Child Life practice through a variety of therapeutic and developmental play activities to promote self-healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery.
Provides basic psychosocial support to patients and families, addressing issues related to hospitalization and continuity in the child's normal life experience; directs to professional staff as appropriate.
Responsible for monitoring the Child Life Activities Center to provide for safety and cleanliness appropriate to patient pop! ulation, hospital policy and procedures, and regulatory standards.

Contributes to maintaining a patient "safe zone" that is appealing to patients and families.
Communicates pertinent information on patient developmental and psychosocial issues to the health care team.
Provides orientation, supervision and guidance to volunteers serving in assigned Child Life program area.
Provides supervision and assistance as needed to community programming events in the Child Life Activities Center.
Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities
Maintains equipment and supplies in a cost-efficient manner and orders materials. Maintains appropriate departmental record-keeping activity.
Attends and participates in monthly program meetings.
Participates in peer review process.
CQI: participates in program, discipline, specialty and hospital-wide CQI projects.
Participates in activities to increase program use, awareness and marketability.
Contributes to discipline ! and program committees to enhance patient care.
May participate in single-discipline, multidisciplinary and specialty teams.
Completes mandatory in-service training yearly, which may include, but is not limited to, safety, infection control, HIPAA, corporate compliance training, CPR and program-specific respiratory training.
Completes departmental checks as assigned (i.e., Environment of Care rounds, refrigerator temperature checks, etc.).
Casual position. Work hours are evenings and weekends.
Must have reliable transportation

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year pediatric/health care experience preferred.
Technical training may be required.
Other Requirements
Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred.
Strong written and verba! l communication skills.
Licenses, Registrations or Certificati! ons
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification within 6 months of hire.
